In Lhasa, we can visit some grand palaces like the Potala Palace and Norbulingka. They both are the palaces of Dalai Lama enriched with fine art, architecture, and paintings. Similarly, the Sera monastery and Drepung monastery are the other two must-visit centers. They are large monasteries with a remarkable number of monks following the teachings of Lord Buddha. Last but not least, the Jokhang temple is an old temple placed in between the maze of Bakhor Street. Ending the tour, we drive back to Kathmandu via the Kerung route. The first day marks your arrival day in Kathmandu. Clear all the visa requirements and customs clearance, if any, at the arrival section of the airport. As you come out, you will find a representative from World Alpine Treks waiting for you holding a board with your name. You will then be transferred to your hotel at Kathmandu. The representative will shortly inform you about the plans ahead.
The second day is a day tour just to warm up prior to your trekking journey. Kathmandu is a city enriched with artistic palaces, beautiful monuments, ancient temples, and other constructions of historical and cultural importance. No wonder the city has seven out of ten UNESCO listed world heritage sites. Today, you will be guided to the UNESCO listed heritage sites in Kathmandu. These heritages are perfect examples of rich history, exceptional culture, and architectural treasures of Nepal. At first, you will be taken to Kathmandu Durbar Square. The art, crafts, and carvings in the palaces, temples, and other monuments of the durbar square are excellent. After that, you will be escorted to Swayambhunath stupa (Monkey temple), Pashupatinath temple and Boudhanath stupa respectively. (Inclusive of breakfast)
After breakfast in the hotel, you will be picked up for a drive to Nyalam. We drive along Bhaktapaur and pass Dhulikhel and Dolalghat to Friendship Bridge at the Nepal China border. We get down from the ride and walk for around ten minutes to cross the bridge. There we meet our Chinese crew members and clear all the immigration formalities. Leaving Nyalam, we head towards Old Tingri Today. We continue our ride along Sino Nepal Highway to Old Tingri. On the way, we stop at Milarepa cave to visit the cave. Further, we ascend up to Thong La pass and Lalung La pass at an elevation of 5050 meters and 5082 meters, respectively. Today, we leave Old Tingri and drive towards Rongbuk. Here, we visit the famous Rongbuk monastery. Rongbuk is just 100 kilometers from the Advanced Everest Base Camp. Today is an adventurous day of our tour as we will be facing the grandeur of the mighty Mt. Everest. We take a local bus that will drive us to Everest Base Camp. As we move ahead to the base camp, we will be rewarded with some incredible views of mountains that include Mt. Cho-Oyu, Mt. Chomolungma (Tibetan side of Mt. Everest), Mt. Shishapangma, etc. From the base camp, we relish the beauty of Mt. Everest along with the dry mountainous terrain of Tibet. There is a monastery called Shakya monastery in Shakya. Early in the morning, we explore the monastery and the seat of Shakya School. Then, we continue our drive towards Shigatse, the second-largest city of Tibet. Here, we can visit Tashihunpo monastery. Today, we drive towards Lhasa via Gyantse. Gyantse is just three hours drive from Shigatse. At Gyantse, we visit the Kumbum monastery and drive to Lhasa. On the way, we cross Karo La pass at 5010 meters to Yamdrok lake. From the lake, we ascend up to Kambala pass at 4794 meters to Lhasa city. Lhasa is a capital city and administrative center of the Tibetan Autonomous Region. The religious, cultural, and historical heritages of Tibet are also centralized in this city. Also referred to as the place of Gods, Lhasa is a beautiful city preserved with some ancient palaces, temples, and monasteries. Today is the first day of a sightseeing tour around Lhasa city. You will be escorted to some wonderful places like Sera Monastery, Norbulingka palace, Jokhang temple, and Bakor street. Sera monastery is a large monastery that shelters many monks following Buddhism and its teachings. Norbulingka Palace is a grand summer palace of Dalai Lama that dominates the entire Lhasa city. Jokhang is an ancient temple that is surrounded by Bakor Street, a busy street around the temple. Tonight, at a hotel in Lhasa (Inclusive of breakfast)
In Lhasa, we have so many places to explore. Today, we visit the Potala palace and Drepung monastery. Potala Palace is a grand palace of the Dalai Lama that dominates the entire Lhasa city. The red and whitewashed walls of the castle are distinctly visible from far away. Built-in the 14th century, the Drepung monastery was once the largest monastery in the entire world. After visiting these places, we return back to our hotel in Lhasa for the night (Inclusive of breakfast)
