Overview

''Tamang Heritage Trek is an exciting combo of alluring mountains, picturesque landscapes, scattered traditional villages, and the vibrancy of culture and lifestyle of the people residing in those villages.''

Tamang Heritage Trek takes you to some charming Tamang villages placed in the backdrop of the beautiful Ganesh Himal and Langtang ranges. It allows you to taste the wilderness of towering mountains. The trail to these Tamang villages is seldom explored, which has enabled this place to preserve its originality intact, whether it be in terms of natural glory or cultural richness.

Tamang Heritage Trek is an opportunity to get the real essence of off beaten trail trek to the Tamang villages that lies very close to the Tibetan border. No wonder the lifestyle and culture of the people resemble that of the Tibetan Buddhists. The prayer flags, chortens, mani walls, and the monasteries on the way reflects the Tibetan Buddhist religion that is dominant in those areas.

Tamang Heritage trek starts with a guided tour around the heritage sites in Kathmandu, which is followed by a drive to Syabrubensi. From Syabrubensi, we walk along the beautiful landscape and pass the village of Galtang, with astonishing views of forests and mountains on sight. We then walk towards the Tamang villages of Nagthali, Thuman, and Birdim, where we can get some in-depth insights into Tamang culture and the traditional lifestyle of people. On the way to Nagthali, we pass Tatopani, where we can enjoy a hot water bath in the natural hot springs of Tatopani.

The trek traverses to some lush hills, forests, and villages of the Langtang region, with panoramic views of the Ganesh Himal and Langtang range on site. It is quite accessible from Kathmandu and near to Langtang National Park. If you want to be a part of its 11 days of Tamang Heritage, trek into the gorgeous landscape with a unique cultural blend, do not forget to remember your reliable travel companion – World Alpine Treks.

The first day marks your arrival day in Kathmandu. Clear all the visa requirements and customs clearance, if any, at the arrival section of the airport. As you come out, you will find a representative from World Alpine Treks waiting for you holding a board with your name. You will then be transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. The representative will inform you shortly about the plans ahead.

The second day is a day tour just to warm up before your trekking journey. Kathmandu is a city enriched with artistic palaces, beautiful monuments, ancient temples, and other constructions of historical and cultural importance. No wonder the city has seven out of ten UNESCO-listed world heritage sites. Today, you will be guided to the UNESCO-listed heritage sites in Kathmandu. These heritages are perfect examples of the rich history, exceptional culture, and architectural treasures of Nepal. At first, you will be taken to Kathmandu Durbar Square. The art, crafts, and carvings in the palaces, temples, and other monuments of the durbar square are excellent. After that, you will be escorted to Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath Temple, and Boudhanath Stupa respectively. (Inclusive of breakfast).

Today, we leave Kathmandu and head north toward Syabrubensi. It is around seven hour's drive from Kathmandu via bus/jeep. We take a vehicle and drive along a scenic route full of hills and lush countryside landscapes. On the way, we pass Dhunche and follow a trail that crosses the Trishuli River with a quick glance at Ganesh Himal. Further, we pass villages and farmland and head deep into the region until we reach Syabrubensi. Tonight, we are staying at a guesthouse in Syabrubensi. (Inclusive of breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Leaving Syabrubensi, we start our trekking journey with a pleasant walk and a pristine environment. We pass many traditional villages on our way and ascend slowly to a viewpoint that offers some fascinating views of the Ganesh Himal and Langtang ranges. From this viewpoint, we descend to Goljung Valley and walk through some settlement areas and farmlands until we reach the jovial Tamang village of Galtang. Tonight, we are staying at a guesthouse in Galtang. (Inclusive of breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

As we move ahead from Galtang, we descend down to Thangbuche, which lies very near the Chilime village. There is a Chilime Hydropower project ongoing near the Bhotekoshi River. We pass the Chilime Hydropower dam and ascend up through the trail until we reach Tatopani. Tatopani is an exciting place. Tatopani comprises two Nepali words -  Tato and Pani, which mean hot and water, respectively. And as its name denotes, Tatopani is a place with natural hot springs.  Tonight, we are staying at a guesthouse in Tatopani. (Inclusive of breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Early in the morning, you can enjoy a hot water bath in the natural hot water springs of Tatopani to soothe your mind and body. After breakfast, we continue our journey toward the next Tamang village in the Langtang region. We pass dense alpine forests on the way to Brimdang, a small Tamang settlement area. Next, we walk uphill toward Nagthali Hill. From the top of the hill, we can get some spectacular views of Langtang Himal, Sanjeng Kerung, Ganesh Himal, and other peaks.

Further, we walk downhill to the Tamang village of Thuman. From Thuman, we descend to the village of Timur. It is yet another Tamang settlement on the way. Tonight, we are staying at a guesthouse in Timur. (Inclusive of breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Moving forward, we head towards another Tamang village of Buddhism. We continue to walk from Timur via Lingling.  Located in the lap of Langtang Himal, Briddim is a beautiful village with an enormous influence on Tibetan Buddhist culture. Lying close to the border, the villages completely resemble that of the Tibetan villages. The Tibetan Buddhist religion is prevalent there, which is reflected in the prayer flags, mani walls, and chortens along the way. We visited a monastery called Dukchu Gompa in the village. Tonight, we are staying at a guesthouse in Buddhism. (Inclusive of breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

From Buddhism, we descend down via the lush countryside landscape and pass various settlement areas and farmlands on the way to Syabrubensi. Tonight, we are staying at a guesthouse in Syabrubensi. (Inclusive of breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Leaving Syabrubensi, we drive back via the same lush and pristine countryside landscape to the capital city of Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you can check into the hotel and relax in your hotel room for the rest of the time. Tonight, we are staying at a hotel in Kathmandu. (Inclusive of breakfast and lunch).

Amazing Langtang Trek

I did a trip-of-a-lifetime trek to the Langtang Valley in Nepal which was spectacular. Deepak was a great guide; finding all the best guest houses to stay, the best food, and walking at the right pace. He was also good company to talk to which is important on a multi-day trek.

I would thoroughly recommend anyone to go to Nepal; such a beautiful country and people!
